Review Perfect 10 Liners (2024) BY Multilicus

Perfect 10 Liners honestly had a lot going for it in terms of potential, but somewhere along the way, it just got too caught up in trying to do too much. Right from the beginning, the premise was promising—first-year students getting randomly paired with mentors and finding themselves tangled in friendship, crushes, identity, and emotional baggage. Sounds like it could be both chaotic and charming, right? And to be fair, there were definitely a few enjoyable moments scattered throughout. But overall, the show ended up feeling like three separate series awkwardly crammed into one, and the result was kind of a narrative disaster.

The structure is maybe the biggest issue here. We’re talking about three main couples, each with their own storyline, PLUS secondary couples, and then a boatload of side characters. And despite being framed around the “Perfect 10 Liners” group to supposedly connect them all, that thread was more aesthetic than functional. Most of the time, the individual stories don’t even overlap in any meaningful way. Instead of feeling like one cohesive series, it felt like flipping channels between three different shows that all happen to be set in the same school. And because each main couple only gets a third of the total screen time, there’s barely enough space to really dig into any of their stories or personalities.

The writing doesn’t help. There’s this constant tug-of-war between trying to address heavier themes like trauma, rejection, and loneliness, and also going for silly, slapstick humor. It doesn’t blend well at all. One moment someone’s talking about their deepest insecurities, and the next it’s like we’re watching a parody skit. It ends up making serious moments feel unserious, and funny moments feel forced. The worst of it, honestly, was in the Yotha and Gun arc. What could’ve been a touching story about trauma and healing got totally lost under weirdly written scenes that sometimes crossed lines without addressing the consequences. It just gave off really wrong vibes.

The biggest issue across the board, though, is the show’s insistence that getting a boyfriend magically solves everything. Scared of the dark? Get a boyfriend. Confused about your sexuality? Get a boyfriend. Family problems? Breakups? Internal struggles? Yep—you guessed it. Just date someone and everything’s fixed. It’s like the show couldn’t imagine emotional growth without romance, which made it feel shallow and repetitive, especially when all three main arcs used this same formula. You start noticing that none of the characters are really changing or growing, they’re just being assigned partners and suddenly they’re “healed.”

When it comes to acting, it’s a mixed bag, though mostly leaning towards underwhelming. Junior as Faifa is maybe the only one who brought any real nuance, especially in his more serious scenes. Everyone else either felt stiff, disconnected, or just plain uncomfortable in their roles. Santa had this weird pattern of swinging between over-the-top and totally blank-faced, while Perth looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. Force and Book delivered their usual—nothing memorable, just passable. It’s not entirely their fault though; the script doesn’t give them much to work with. Even talented actors would struggle with this kind of inconsistent and surface-level material.

There were brief sparks of charm here and there. Some jokes did land. Some dynamics were kind of sweet. The production quality was fine, and visually, it had the bright, polished look that fans of the genre expect. But none of that can cover up how sloppy the writing is or how the pacing constantly undermines emotional investment. It felt like every time you were about to get into a storyline, the episode would jump to another couple and reset the emotional tone.

In the end, Perfect 10 Liners had ambition, but no real direction. It tried to juggle too many characters, too many arcs, too many tones—and dropped the ball on almost all of them. For a show with such a huge ensemble, it’s surprising how little you come away remembering about any of the characters. It wasn’t totally unwatchable, but it was definitely forgettable. Just another BL series with a flashy concept that couldn’t stick the landing.
