Review The Boy Next World Special Episode: A World Where We Don’t Know Each Other (2025) BY Blkittykat
The multiverse… is not just real, it's expanding in ways I wasn’t ready for.
This episode didn’t come close to clearing up the confusion left by the original series—instead, it added another layer of chaos. Rather than feeling like a proper special meant to offer closure or deeper insight, it felt like a soft reboot or teaser for a new arc. I was hoping for answers, some form of resolution to the loose ends the series left hanging, but instead I got a brand-new storyline that felt more like the beginning of another uncertain journey.
The new direction gave me flashbacks to Secret Crush On You, and of course, echoes of The Boy Next World were all over it. It walked the line between homage and repetition, but leaned more into the familiar tropes and charm than anything groundbreaking. Because it played out more like a pilot than a conclusion, most of the runtime was packed with fluff, playful humor, and quirky interactions. Fun, sure—but at the cost of any meaningful progression.
The characters returned with a slightly different energy—recognizable yet changed. It almost felt like they were alternate versions of themselves, further feeding into the multiverse idea, and honestly, that part was fascinating even if underexplored. But despite the nostalgic charm and comedic timing, I was left sitting there, notebook in hand, with more unanswered questions than ever.
That said, I won’t deny that it was adorable in parts. There were scenes that genuinely made me smile, moments that captured the sweetness and chemistry I remembered loving. I especially appreciated how much focus the second couple received—they practically stole the episode and added a refreshing contrast to the main plot.
So while I wouldn’t call this episode satisfying in the traditional sense, it was still an enjoyable watch. It didn’t provide the closure I craved, but it also didn’t leave me completely disappointed. If anything, it opened another door—though whether or not I want to walk through it depends on what comes next.
